The end of the Sound Design Showdown: WE HAVE A WINNER!

What a month it’s been! We’ve had 84 submissions sent in over 4 rounds by 54 amazing sound design trios… and we finally have a winner! If you want to check out the results livestream, you can watch it here!

Congratulations to… Teamname_Final16.wav!

@Cai Jones, @Becky Street, and @Luke Evans achieved a stunning victory in the final, which came down to the absolute wire as their 1st tiebreaker vote ended up as a 50/50 tie with eventual runner ups Lo-Mid Meta, before they managed to win by 50.5% to 49.5% in the re-vote. It was by far the closest and most nail-biting battle we had in the showdown so it was well a worthy final battle!

Comisserations but also a huge congrats to 2nd and 3rd place teams Lo-Mid Meta (@Valentin Cochet, @Angelo Esposito, @Adam Rich) and the Trim Reapers (@Andrew Jordan, @Abdullah Soydan, @Sebastian Teodoro), who also won some prizes for their efforts.

Here is Teamname_Final16.wav’s route to the final: they dispatched of 7 other sound design teams along the way by expertly crafting some audio for prompts such as “8-bit game character squares off against a AAA mega beast boss” and “a musical performance of an organic alien flesh bagpipe”. Not an easy route at all!

Here is the final bracket in it’s entirety: a huge thank you to all 54 teams who entered the Sound Design Showdown! We hope you had fun and that the contest was a worthwhile experiment - we’ve never seen any contest like it before and so it was a blast doing it for the first time.

Elsewhere in the competition, we had some other prizes wrapped up in the livestream last week!

Raffle winner: Congratulations to @Anthony Cable for winning the raffle!

Best Team Name/Slogan: Our actual showdown champions Teamname_Final16.wav won the best teamname vote! We will also award it to They’re Grrrr808 as they came up with the same team name before we asked them to change it!

Submission of the Showdown: The 3 Wwise Men won the public vote with their submission for “sushi making montage” - it was unbelievably impressive so congratulations!

Greg vs Lewis Grudge Match: Greg and I battled it out with the prompt “two birds having a rap battle” and, as expected, I took home the victory here 😎 In all seriousness it was awesome fun and you should definitely check out the submissions - they were good fun! I look forward to our rematch @Greg Lester ;)

To all of our winners: Congratulations! We will be in touch soon with your prizes.

Thank you to everyone for taking part in the Sound Design Showdown! We hope you had a blast! Stay tuned for Noisevember!
