Free app / IndieSpot™

I’ve been building these little tools for months now, and I’m sure plenty of you here on AW have been doing the same. I love making them, and I only build things that solve real problems for me. I use every one of my apps in my day-to-day work.

This one is called IndieSpot™. It helps me put together estimates for indie film projects. Potential clients almost always ask for per-minute pricing, but my career started in advertising, where I only ever worked with hourly rates. IndieSpot translates those hourly numbers into a per-minute cost. Whether you’re supervising a team or doing all the work yourself, I hope it helps you out.

Beyond the number crunching, my favorite part of the app is the spotting feature. Load a film into the app (your media stays local) and build a spotting sheet as you watch. It’s not a full spotting session. Think of it as a pre-spotting pass, where I note every concern or question I have as I go. Paired with the estimate, it makes for a great presentation to the client.
